Take your time. There is no finish line — only the next honest sentence.

Many mothers spend years trying to manage behaviour, correct mistakes and prepare their sons for the future. Those things matter. Yet before any of that can happen, a boy needs to feel seen. He needs to know that the person raising him understands who he is, what he is struggling with and what he needs.
Too often we focus on what a boy is doing and miss what he is experiencing.
A boy slams a door and we see disrespect. A boy refuses to talk and we see stubbornness. A boy gets into trouble at school and we see bad choices.
Sometimes those things are true. Yet many times there is something deeper happening beneath the surface. There is frustration, disappointment, fear, confusion or hurt that the boy himself cannot fully explain.
The challenge for mothers is not simply to react to behaviour. It is to understand the message behind it.
That is where connection begins.
